Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. is making a bigger push into the nation’s most populous state, with a franchisee planning to add 20 shops in southern California within seven years.
Great Circle Family Foods LLC already has 11 shops in southern California, making it Krispy Kreme’s third-largest domestic franchisee. It has been a franchisee since 1998.
Altogether, Krispy Kreme currently has 26 shops in California, according to its website. California is followed by Florida with 25 and North Carolina with 24.
The company announced plans in December to expand its Texas franchisee presence by 25 shops to 38, primarily in Dallas and Houston, by 2018.
Lafeea Watson, Krispy Kreme’s public relations manager, said today that Great Circle is adding shops in California counties of Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura.
